mGSM

Add-on IP module for Contact ID alarm & fire panels

" Taking the alarm industry into the communications world "

The mGSM (Module for GSM wireless networks) is an add-on board for alarm and fire panels designed to offer line supervision and communication line backup functionalities. The functionalitues offered by the mGSM modules (some functionalities not available in all versions) are:

    > Line supervision : The mGSM module is continuously checking the telephone line, sending an alarm to the central monitoring station if for some reason the telephone line became unavailable. In such circumstance, the mGSM module will connect with the central station receiver making a phone call through the GSM wireless network and it will send a "line failure" alarm. Once the telephone line is restored, the module can be programmed to also send a "line restore" alarm to the central station.

     > Wireless backup to the telephone line:  The mGSM offers the alarm panel the possibility of transmitting alarms to the central station receiver via the GSM cell phone network:

          a. Under normal conditions, the alarm panel will be able to transmit alarms using the regular telephone line.

         b. If the telephone line goes down for some reason (sabotage or technical problems), the mGSM will allow the alarm panel to dial using the GSM phone network. The panel will dial the monitoring station number and will transmit the alarm to the conventional telephone line based receiver. The alarm transmission process is completed normally, the only difference is that the phone call is made via the cell phone network.

      > Telephone connection to the GSM network: Some versions of the mGSM will allow any regular telephone set connected to the unit to make phone calls through the cell phone network. This functionality could be a value added functionality for those cases in which there is no telephone line available at the location. The same GSM account used by the module can also be used to provide GSM telephone service to the premises.

The main advantages of using an mGSM with your control panels are:

1. Compatible with already installed control panels: The mGSM module, as all the "m" product line from Telsec, is "manufacturer independent", which means that it'll work with any control panel as long as it can be setup to use Contact ID. You can use your already installed panel, no need to replace it with a new and expensive digital panel.
2. Line supervision: The mGSM is continuously monitoring the status of the telephone line, being able to detect any “signal loss condition”. If the telephone line became unavailable, the mGSM will send an alarm to the central station indicating a line failure condition and, from that point on, it will allow the alarm panel to dial using the GSM phone network (thus providing a backup communication line to the telephone line).
3. Wireless backup to the telephone line : If the telephone line becomes unavailable, the mGSM module will allow the panel to dial using the GSM network. The alarm panel will be able to send alarm to the central station without even noticing that the transmission is happening over the telephone network.
4. Telephone service through the GSM wireless account: The mGSM module can provde telephone service (through the GSM network) to any telephone set connected to the module. The same account will be used to provide telephone service as well as to transmit alarms.

The mGSM modules transmit all alarms directly to conventional telephone line based alarm receivers. No special configuration or receivers are needed for the mGSM module. Alarm panels will continue to send alarms to the programmed receiver regardless how the alarm transmission happens (via de telephone network or via a wireless GSM phone call).

mGSM module versions:

mGSM: The regular version of the mGSM module offers all the functionalities explained in this document: line supervision, alarm panel alarms transmission over GSM, three alarm input and GSM access to telephone sets connected to the unit.

mGSM-X: The X version of the mGSM offers the same functionalities than the standard mGSM module allowing also for the panel to receive phone call through the GSM wireless network. This functionality will allow any ContactID control panel to fully operate as a wireless alarm panel (not needing the telephone line even for programming or maintenance purposes).

mGSM-lite: This version of the mGSM module offers the line supervision functionality as well as the three alarm inputs (it does not allow the alarm panel to dial using the GSM network. Communication with the panel will usually be achieved connecting the outputs of the panel to any of the three alarm inputs on the mGSM-lite board).
